Montelukast Sodium

Montelukast sodium is a selective cysteinyl leukotriene receptor antagonist. By blocking the action of leukotrienes, it helps reduce bronchoconstriction, airway edema, and inflammatory processes in the lungs and nasal passages.

Dosage by Body Weight

Typically administered once daily in the evening for asthma and allergic rhinitis. For exercise-induced bronchoconstriction, it should be taken at least 2 hours before exercise. Clinical dosing is traditionally based on age rather than weight: 4 mg daily for ages 2-5 years, 5 mg daily for ages 6-14 years, and 10 mg daily for ages 15 and older.
